Pinokkio

The Adventures of Pinocchio is an Italian fairy tale written in a different time and world. But alongside the puppet’s amusing adventures, we find much more that is relevant to the present day. It is a story about growing up. A wooden puppet wants to become a ‘real boy’. Pinocchio has a little cricket as his trusted advisor. At the start of the story, he swings a hammer at the cricket who is lecturing him, but he follows the cricket throughout the story. Did the cricket dodge the hammer? Or is it his conscience that follows him? Both young and old are moved by this story of a puppet who must learn to think for himself, so as no longer to be a marionette. He must take the reins himself.

He is not a fairy-tale character who is simply good or bad. He is no hero. He makes mistakes, just like you and me, and grows as a result. When he becomes a real boy, he will also be able to grow physically and will no longer be stuck in his childish state.

The story of Pinocchio is also the story of the YoungStars, who, as children and young people, find themselves in an adult world. They grow up and learn more and more during their time with I SOLISTI. They grow not only into mature musicians, but also into mature individuals. They are gradually becoming ‘real boys’ and ‘real girls’, making them the ideal musicians to perform this story. The new music was composed by our Artist in Residence Frederik Neyrinck and the text adapted by former MakerSpace artist Michèle Delagrange. The YoungStars ensemble is conducted by Jan Smets.
