Merging music and motion

I SOLISTI Composers Lab gives composers the opportunity to experiment with writing music for visual media. Five animated films from LUCA School of Arts experience a metamorphosis through the new compositions created during the Composers Lab.

During Composers Lab we explore film and image. You write your unique soundtrack, which will be created during a public showcase at the end of the week. Experienced composers Claude Ledoux, Martijn Padding and Frederik Neyrinck are your coaches, with the I SOLISTI musicians conducted by Martijn Dendievel and the other participating composers as your soundboard. During the week you will also work together with the ensemble to shape your work in progress. Once you have submitted your first draft version, you will receive feedback and an initial sound impression. During the course week there is plenty of time to refine and expand your composition.

How does the Composers Lab work?

To be selected, fill in the application form before 15.01.2021 and send us 2 compositions for different line-ups, of which at least one for ensemble. If you have recordings of your chosen works, please enclose them with your application.

After selection and confirmation of your participation, you will be assigned one of the composers as head coach. In the preparation for the course week in August, this coach will (digitally) accompany you and organize intermediate feedback sessions. During the Composers Lab you’ll have the opportunity to work out your own score together with all the coaches and 10 musicians of I SOLISTI. We will also work towards the public showcase on Friday, where your composition will be performed, together with the images of the animation film.
